Why does the shifter bobble up and down when im driving?

I have a 1994 pontiac firebird and when im driving it, the shifter moves up and down as if its going to fall. what could it be? I heard i needed to replace a front motor mount and a thrust bearing but i cant find an auto parts store that knows what a thrust bearing is. I replaced a mount but that aint work. any body has any idea???
