...should i tell someone?

i have this male friend in my cl. he is really nice. one day he came to school all upset, he said he wanted to kill himself & other type of crazii stuff....i found out that his dad is physically abusing him...(not ually!)....physically(like hitting on him and punishing him for no reason)...should i go to an adult about this or should i jus pray about the situation & keep it to mii self???
