Why are games so expensive?

Most of your games take years to make if they are any good, with that you have the money you are paying out for the research and game development over those years. Then you also have the money and time it takes to make each game work with whatever format or system that it will be played on. example: if someone is making a game for football, then they make it for a certain game system first, then they have to go back and change different aspects of the game to fit the next system or pc and so on and on and on it goes...it is not cheap or fast to make a game, and they have to be sure to cover those costs and make a profit...
