Lithium Carbonate for Bipolar Disorder?
Sounds like lithium carbonate may be a good fit for you. Lithium can have many side effects, some go away over time. The theutic range for lithium's effectiveness is usually narrow for the person. This means that the difference between the helpful dosage and a dangerous dosage is small. So your doctor will increase slowly, and you will be monitored periodically for negative organ effects. Lithium is often used or Depakote for bipolars with stronger mania phases. For some it works very well. For others they eventually go off of it because of weight gain or other side effects. Keep your doctor informed of any unpleasant side effects by leaving him a voice message. There are many bipolar meds, so if this one fails, there are many to try.
